Documents required for the PAN card correction process

Your PAN card also known as Permanent Account Number is a document that identifies you as a taxpayer of India. This unique identification number has been assigned to a citizen of India by the Income Tax Department of India. The complete PAN system has been specifically computerized and designed for the users who pay tax. It’s a valid ID proof which is linked to your Aadhaar Card and Bank Account, which makes it mandatory that only genuine data is printed on it. 

Documents to be submitted for PAN card correction

For getting your PAN card correction done, the following documents need to be submitted on the basis of your identity proof, address proof, and date of birth proof. For this, you can submit any of the below-mentioned documents:

  • Aadhaar Card
  • Voter ID
  • Arm’s license
  • Driving License
  • Municipal Authority issued Birth certificate
  • Passport
  • Ration card with photograph
  • Pensioner card with photograph
  • Photo identity card issued by the central Government/state Government/public sector
  • undertaking
  • Central Government Health Scheme Card
  • Matriculation certificate/marks sheet from a known board
  • Registrar issued Marriage certificate

Once you have the above-mentioned documents you can easily get your PAN card details corrected. The below-mentioned guidelines need to be followed:

(a) An applicant needs to fill the PAN Change Request Form online and then submit the form.

(b) If the data you have submitted fails in any of the format level validation, then, you will get a response indicating the error on your screen.

(c) The applicant can rectify the error and then again submit the form.

(d) If there are no errors of format then a confirmation screen with that data filled by the applicant is displayed.

(e) If the applicant requires any alteration to this data, they can choose the edit option, or they can confirm the details.

(f) For the PAN card correction, the applicant needs to fill all the fields marked with a *.

(g) If the application is for reissuing the PAN card without any further changes in PAN related data then, you can fill all the fields but not select any box on the left margin.

(h) In any case of either changing or correcting the PAN data, the address for communication gets updated in the database.

(i) For cancellation of your PAN, fill all the mandatory fields in the Form, and enter PAN to be cancelled. The PAN to be cancelled should not be the same as the one you are currently using.

(j) On the confirmation, an acknowledgment will be displayed on the screen which contains a unique 15-digit acknowledgment number.

(k) The applicant needs to save the acknowledgment and the acknowledgment number.

(l) PAN card correction online facility can be used only by PAN applicants that have a valid Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) issued to them by an authorized CA in India.
